BAY AREA RUNNING / Guides

Make running fit a working week

A realistic routine for people with meetings, launches, commutes, and lives outside their calendar.

Choose a reliable window

A short before-work outing, a lunch walk, and a longer weekend run have different logistical needs. Start by identifying a window you can protect without depending on a perfectly quiet workday. The crew directory distinguishes morning, after-work, and weekend formats.

Budget for the whole outing

Include changing, travel, the run itself, and getting home. A 30-minute run is not always a 30-minute calendar block. If you cannot carry your laptop comfortably, do not assume a park or café will store it.

Have a smaller version

A busy day may call for a shorter outing or a rest day. Decide what can be adjusted before the calendar fills. You do not need to make up every missed minute, and the community has no attendance streak requirement.

Keep coworkers’ choices voluntary

Invite people once, make the format clear, and accept a decline. A social run should not become an extra work obligation or a place to discuss confidential work in public. There is plenty to talk about beyond the sprint board.

LESS SCROLL. MORE STRIDE.
