YOUR PEOPLE.
YOUR PACE.
Engineers, designers, researchers, operators. Meet outside the org chart, with a crew that matches your energy.
BIG IDEAS. LONGER RUNS.
You’re building what comes next.
Make a little room for your next 26.2.
The Bay Area running community for people in AI and tech. Easy miles, friendly rivalries, and a first marathon with your name on it.
OUR FOUNDING MISSION
Help 100 Bay Area tech workers reach their first marathon finish line. One local crew. One ordinary week. One extraordinary first finish.
Meet the First 100 ↗01 / A DIFFERENT KIND OF RUN CLUB
We spend our days making machines smarter.
Let’s spend a few hours making each other stronger.
Bay Area Running is an independent community taking shape around one big idea: help the people building the future find their way to a marathon finish line. One conversation, one coffee, one very ordinary Tuesday run at a time.
The way we run thingsEngineers, designers, researchers, operators. Meet outside the org chart, with a crew that matches your energy.
Company teams for the competitive ones. Conversation miles for the rest. Plenty of room to be both.
The big goal is 26.2. The first goal is showing up. Build the habit and the friendships before chasing the distance.
02 / FIND YOUR CREW
Before stand-up. After sign-off.
There’s a run that fits your kind of week.
An easy start, a waterfront conversation, and a little daylight before your first meeting.
One lake. Plenty to talk about. An easy loop for your post-work reset.
Close the last tab. Catch up with people who know exactly what that feels like.
A little structure, a little friendly competition. Find your fast with people in your lane.
For the people south of the office commute. Low-pressure miles, excellent company.
More time outside. More people in your corner. The weekend ritual behind a bigger goal.
A good thing in the making. These are proposed crew formats, not scheduled events. Captains, exact meeting points, accessibility details, and first-run dates will be confirmed before RSVPs open.
03 / THE LONG GAME
Big goals get smaller when you break them into good weeks.
There’s no universal countdown to a marathon. Start where you are, build a sustainable routine, and find a plan that fits your life.
START WHERE YOU ARE. GO AT YOUR PACE.
Start with comfortable walks and short run/walk outings. A little consistency matters more than a fast first week.
Choose a social format that feels manageable. Leave space for recovery and make showing up something you look forward to.
A first 5K, then perhaps a 10K or a half. Each milestone helps you learn what works for your body and your schedule.
When you have a solid running base, choose a realistic race and a qualified coach or suitable plan. Your timeline is your own.
04 / THE FRIENDLIEST COMPETITION IN TECH
Introducing the Bay Area Company Miles Challenge: a proposed team season where your intern’s first 5K matters as much as your CTO’s fast finish.
Bring a few coworkers. Pick a team name. Make a habit of getting outside together. Independent runners can join an open crew, so nobody needs a company badge to belong.
Bring your teamScore the share of your team showing up, not total miles.
Celebrate a first 5K, 10K, half, or full marathon.
Opt into friendly racing in comparable pace groups.
THE UNWRITTEN RULES. WRITTEN DOWN.
Friendships, not funnels. No unsolicited recruiting, sales pitches, or pressure to talk shop.
Social crews regroup and support their last runner. Faster sessions are clearly labeled, so everyone can choose.
Respect names, pronouns, boundaries, and shared paths. Ask before photographing or posting about another runner.

Invite a small group across roles and experience levels. Ask what pace and time would make showing up easy.
Check the route, identify a run leader and a rear leader, and share an exact meeting point, duration, and weather plan.
Consistency comes before competition. Once your crew has a rhythm, choose a shared race goal.
07 / THE RUN-DOWN
From “am I fast enough?” to “how does the company challenge work?” Start here.
The Golden Gate Bridge Marathon is our official marathon event. Bay Area Running is its host and official sponsor. The concept is a shared endurance challenge with repeated crossings of the Golden Gate Bridge. Our first edition is in planning; the final course, date, permissions, and registration are pending.
Registration is not open. A confirmed date, participant guide, final route, capacity, and entry terms will be published before signups begin. There is no payment, reservation, or waitlist form on this site.
Bay Area Running is a new, independent running-community concept for people working in AI and tech across San Francisco, the East Bay, the Peninsula, and the South Bay. The mission is to build a welcoming local running scene and help more people work toward a marathon. This is the founding-stage website; organized runs have not launched yet.
Yes. The proposed run/walk and social crews are designed to welcome people starting from scratch. You do not need a race time or a fitness tracker. Choose an easy format and build up gradually at your own pace; the marathon is a long-term possibility, not a condition of belonging.
Comfortable running shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are enough to start. Carry what you need for the outing, including water, any personal essentials, and a charged phone. Check the published run details for lights, route conditions, duration, and available facilities once events launch.
No. A marathon is the shared north star, but walking regularly, your first 5K, or a social run each week can be the right goal today. You remain part of the community whether or not you ever race.
The proposed Company Miles Challenge lets coworkers form a crew, with open teams for independent runners. The idea includes separate recognition for consistent participation, first finishes, and optional racing. Enrollment, season dates, team rules, and final scoring have not launched.
There is no account, email signup, payment form, or run registration on this version of the site. Crew and FAQ filters only change the current page. The captain’s kit is generated in your browser. Hosting providers may process routine technical request information, and external links have their own privacy practices.
