BAY AREA RUNNING / Guides

Share the trail like a good neighbor

Practical habits for group runs on paths that also belong to walkers, cyclists, families, and wildlife.

Keep room for everyone

A conversation should not require the full width of a path. Move into a narrower formation when others need room, pass with patience, and avoid stopping at tight corners or entrances. Being in a club does not give a group priority.

Regroup with intention

Choose wide, appropriate places to gather and leave through access open. At a junction, make sure the final participant knows the next direction. Do not send a newcomer onto an unfamiliar trail with only a shouted instruction.

Follow the rules for the exact place

Dog access, bicycles, hours, and organized-use rules vary. Read the park manager’s current guidance instead of applying the rules from a neighboring park. Stay on designated routes and respect closures and habitat boundaries.

Leave a place ready for the next visitor

Carry out what you bring, including food packaging. Ask permission before photographing people. If the path is too busy for the planned workout, adjust the workout rather than expecting the public to move out of the way.

LESS SCROLL. MORE STRIDE.
