The original concept
The marathon’s own website proposes running back and forth across the Golden Gate Bridge at a future date. Bay Area Running is the host and official sponsor of our planned event. The idea is playful; the requirements for a real organized event still need serious planning.
What is not yet a course
There is no approved or certified route, turn count, start line, finish line, elevation profile, or published GPX. The intended solo distance is 26.2 miles / 42.195 km. Do not infer the number of crossings from the bridge’s total length: permitted turnaround positions and access paths would affect any route.
Public access is not event permission
The bridge remains shared public infrastructure. Ordinary pedestrian access rules do not authorize a race, mass start, marked course, or reserved sidewalk. A viable event plan needs the relevant permissions and a route that respects other users.
What the participant guide must settle
Before registration, the organizer must publish route details, distance measurement, permitted access, turnaround management, capacity, support locations, and what happens if conditions change. Until then, the concept is not an invitation to assemble and run repeated crossings.

GOOD TO KNOW
Questions, answered.
How many crossings will it take?
No official count has been set. A measured, permitted course and exact turnaround points are needed first.
Can I download a GPX?
No. No approved event course exists to export yet.
