A finish is information, not a shortcut
Completing a shorter race can teach you about the start area, pacing choices, and how you feel afterward. It does not automatically establish readiness for marathon training. The next step depends on your recent routine and individual circumstances.
Build a week you can live with
Before choosing a race deadline, consider work travel, family time, recovery, and the days you can realistically run. A plan that only works during a perfect week may be hard to repeat. The First 100 has no fixed finish deadline.
Know where community support ends
Peers can share encouragement and practical experience. A qualified coach can help assess a training approach; health and injury concerns belong with an appropriate healthcare professional. This guide is not a mileage prescription or a guarantee of readiness.
Keep the milestone yours
A half marathon may be a useful goal, or you may spend longer with shorter distances. There is no compulsory race ladder. Choose an event because its demands fit your preparation, not because another teammate registered.
