BAY AREA RUNNING / Guides

When the conditions change, change the plan.

Use current forecasts, air-quality information, and official access notices before heading out for a Bay Area run.

Check information close to departure

An attractive route page is not a live conditions report. Look at the current local forecast, AirNow information, and park or trail notices before deciding. Conditions can differ across the Bay Area and change during an outing.

Take smoke seriously

AirNow advises adjusting outdoor activity when smoke affects the air. Read the current guidance for your circumstances and consider postponing, reducing exertion, or choosing an indoor alternative. People have different sensitivities; a group plan should leave room to opt out.

Give leaders a clear cancellation job

A confirmed club event should identify who makes the call, when updates appear, and which channel participants must check. A calendar entry or an old crew page is not evidence that a run is still on. No organized runs are scheduled by this site yet.

Keep an easy alternative

A shorter route, a different day, or no outing may be the right response to conditions. Do not go around a barrier or enter a closed area to preserve a planned distance. For individual health concerns, seek advice from an appropriate healthcare professional.
